April 12, 2003--St.Croix, Virgin Islands--People who
run races of distances of a mile to the marathon are dedicated and focused.
That’s the least that can be said of Theresa Harper who won her last race in
St. Croix before running the Boston Marathon a week from Monday. Alex Adams
show continued progress as he won his first road race with a time of 20
minutes and 10seconds. Harper was unchallenged in the women’s field and
shared the lead in the race with Adams until he pulled away on lap three of
the four lap 3.1 mile course down King St. and up Company St. She did
narrow the gap as the two raced down King St. To the Florence Williams
Public Library finish one second behind in 20:11. Michael Hurst took second
for the men in 21:40; Earthla Arthur took second for female 22:37; Mc Donald
Taylor was the third male in 25:17; Jo Shim was the third female in 24:16
was 12 year-old Mc Kiesh Taylor was fourth in 25:17 and Jack Branch was
fourth in 27:17.
The race was the culminating event of the celebration
of National Library Week at the Florence Williams Public Library. The race
was sponsored by the FRIENDS of the Florence Williams Public Library which
provided medals and certificates to the winners/participants and a one year
subscription to Running Times Magazine to the first place male and female
finishers.
