• 16. The St. Croix International Triathlon--May Originally staged in April, this swim, bicycle, run event covered the island end to end and incorporates all its natural elements.  "How old is St. Croix?. How large was St. Croix? Was this a small, 84 square  mile island --  now fearfully alone in an area of abyssal deeps -- once part of a larger and ancient land mass?  If not so, how then did this small, slow-moving, largely secretive forest-floor dweller find it way to our miniscule area of jungly hills?  Peripatus is found on the large islands to our west.  How did Peripatus get to St. Croix? Must we presume a grander stage on which Peripatus is the lone remaining actor?  To any who are thrilled by observing the small and unusual inhabitants sharing the island with us, a morning spent looking for Peripatus in the shade and quiet of Creque Dam could be most rewarding."
